Mr Biddulph is at pains to stress to Nursery World readers that 'nurseries can be great places, and it is the very young child I am hoping to divert'.

He puts forward his reasons for advocating that under-threes should not go into daycare in this week's Special Report 'Who Cares?' (pages 10-12).

Defending daycare and disputing his interpretation of childcare research is former National Day Nurseries Association chief executive Rosemary Murphy, a seasoned campaigner for nurseries and quality care.

One of Mr Biddulph's central arguments is that lots of the nursery managers and staff he has spoken to over the years share his concerns about children's needs not being met. He wants to be in conversation with Nursery World readers and make this 'a constructive discussion'.
