Errors will happen

The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) was very disappointed to see the publication of Carol Price's letter about Quality Counts ('Waiting for quality', 28 August). Ms Price's letter was essentially her personal view of what she believes were failures in the administration of the scheme by NDNA. Regrettably in all organisations from time to time, errors in administrative processes are inevitable. At NDNA over the past year we have done our utmost to make amends with Ms Price and rectify any problems she has had with the scheme.

Even one unhappy customer is too many, and we regret that Ms Price felt it was necessary to air her views so publicly. Equally, we regret that the editor of Nursery World felt it was necessary to publish such a vexatious letter.

At the end of the day, quality assurance is a self-help process and the drive for achievement of accreditation must come from the nursery itself, not outside. Quality Counts is by far the biggest scheme for day nurseries and the most challenging and comprehensive. NDNA is proud that it is making a real difference to the lives of children, parents and childcarers across the country.
