Excellence in childcare

Joyce Broughton, an NVQ Level 3 student from Berkshire College of Agriculture, has won the third Heinemann Childcare Student of the Year Award. At a ceremony in October held at the Early Years and Primary Teaching Exhibition in Islington, north London, CACHE chief executive Richard Dorrance awarded Joyce 250 for herself and 300 of Heinemann books for her college.

Joyce's assessor, Rachael Holland, who nominated her, said, 'I visit her regularly at her school and on every visit admire her endless patience and interaction with the children in her care. Joyce gives the children 100 per cent of her attention. She juggles this full-time job with bringing up a large family and running summer camps with teenagers, as well as studying for her NVQ Level 3 in Early Years.'
