Like Nicola, I started with a BTec diploma but since then have completed an NVQ Level 4 in Childcare and Education, management strand, and am now starting the second year of a foundation degree in Early Years.
Updating my qualifications has impacted on the quality of care and education that we provide and also on my personal professional development.
Combining studying and working in a demanding job is difficult but well worth it for a dedicated professional. And it is not all hard work - being a student is fun!
Respect has to be earned. If childcare professionals want to be respected, we should stop complaining and do something about it. We are being offered a golden opportunity. I am determined to achieve Early Years Professional status and do the job I love to the best of my ability.
