Fair pay please

I am a teaching assistant working in a reception class in a school in Warwickshire. I have responsibility for half a class of 30 children on a daily basis. I am not involved in planning, but deliver the curriculum to these children and attend to all their daily needs. I am also continually involved in record keeping and assessment of these children. I earn little more than 5 an hour and am only paid during term time.

I earn little more than 5 an hour and am only paid during term time.

To do my job to my satisfaction I work many unpaid hours each week. I am overqualified for my job, and am not the only one at our school doing this - we also have qualified teachers who have given up teaching to become teaching assistants as they want a life outside of school.

We are a very committed team of ten support staff who give a lot in time and enthusiasm. I am not moaning, as I love my job, but it would be nice to have recognition of the qualifications we have and better pay for the job we do.
