FinlandWay, which operates early years settings and schools across Morocco, India, Vietnam, Brazil, Peru and Colombia, will open its first UK-based Nordic Star nursery in Islington, London next year, which will eventually become its UK Centre of Excellence.

In the next five years, the provider plans to open 10-16 Nordic Star nurseries in the London area, each catering for 50-100 children from three months to age five.

All its nurseries will follow a curriculum similar to that of Finland’s, and all be equipped with wooden furniture and ‘green features’, as well as an indoor garden for planting vegetables and flowers.

Staff working at the settings will undergo ‘extensive’ training from experts at the University of Helsinki.

Alice McNair, chief executive of Nordic Star by FinlandWay, said, ‘We believe that there is a growing demand for alternative early learning solutions in the UK with parents looking for the best for their children. Nordic Star will lead the way in improving outcomes for children through building their resilience, independence and curiosity. While upskilling our staff and offering the most thoughtful employee package, fostering a community of respect and kindness for all the team.’
