Firework destroys nursery

(Photograph) - A Merseyside nursery has lost all its records and equipment after being set ablaze by fireworks. Mary Valle Nursery in Tower Hill, Kirkby, went up in flames on 2 October after a stray rocket went through its eaves and set the roof on fire. The 25-year-old building had had its roof replaced and refurbished five years ago.

Mary Valle Nursery in Tower Hill, Kirkby, went up in flames on 2 October after a stray rocket went through its eaves and set the roof on fire. The 25-year-old building had had its roof replaced and refurbished five years ago.

Shortly before the fire started, children aged about ten were seen setting off fireworks. As fire crews arrived to put out the blaze they were pelted by children as young as eight and nine throwing stones at them.

The 24-place nursery for children aged 18 months to three years also ran an after-school club in the building, which it rented from St Andrew's Anglican Church. It had moved into the building, which was also used as a church, only two years ago.
