Flights of fancy

Enrich children's experience of transport and understanding of travel through a variety of imaginative and role-play environments Planning

Planning

* Remember that any role-play area you set up will be accessed by children with varying experiences and at differing stages in their development, so reflect on how all the children will use the area. Spend time observing children to assess each child's learning and to evaluate the area's success.

* Use both the indoor and outdoor areas for role play. The outdoors offers children opportunities to work on a larger scale and is particularly suited to a topic on transport.

* Reflect real-life situations in the role-play areas. For example, take children to visit a train station or airport before setting up such a role-play area in the setting.
