Free advice on the phone for lone parents

* A freephone advice line for Northern Ireland's 77,000 lone parents has been launched in Belfast. The advice line, funded in part by the National Lottery Charities Board, was set up by Gingerbread Northern Ireland in response to an increased demand from lone parents for confidential and impartial advice.

Gingerbread advice manager Fiona Greene said, 'Lone parents have specific advice needs. Many face problems with getting back to employment, with childcare, housing and other personal and emotional issues following a relationship breakdown or the death of a partner.

'The freephone advice line will mean more lone parents can access this vital service and that we can help them overcome any practical and personal difficulties they may have.'
