The charity Grandparents Plus has secured a 300,000 Big Lottery Fund grant over three years to help develop their work in supporting family, friends and grandparent carers.
Grandparents Plus will use the money to enhance their support of kinship carers. Projects include developing a peer befriending project amongs network members, increasing support on parenting issues for kinship carers and extending the outreach of their new advice and information service.
The charity also plans to increase the membership of their Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Network and continue to promote the voices and views of kinship carers through regional and national events.
Denise Murphy, interim chief executive of Grandparents Plus, said, ‘There are more than 14 million grandparents in the UK and an estimated 200,000 who are raising their grandchildren full-time. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Network and new advice line are lifelines to many of those who don’t know where to turn to for help.
‘This funding from the Big Lottery will allow us to expand the network, develop greater peer-to-peer support and ensure we reach kinship carers from every walk of life across the country through regional events.’
