Getting from idea to final activity

'The beach' was recently suggested as a topic. The group indicated it would like to make something from sand to take home. Inspired by expensive stalls that are appearing at beach resorts where children can fill people-shaped bottles with coloured sand, the playworkers planned an activity. Resources were organised - ordinary transparent plastic bottles were collected in advance, and self-adhesive wobbly eyes were purchased from a craft shop. We also gathered plenty of general craft resources, such as pipe cleaners, wool and cellophane for making features and limbs. And there was different shades and grades of glitter for mixing with our play sand to add interest. The activity was presented in a catchy way - it appeared in our programme as a chance to make 'crazy-creature sand sculptures' as part of our 'Beach life' theme. It was a big hit!
