Graduates praise NPQICL

Participants in the National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership (NPQICL) have strongly praised it in an evaluation report.

The NPQICL is the statutory national programme for leaders ofmulti-agency early years settings. Piloted in September 2004, it now hasover 700 graduates.

A review of the qualification's impact on children's centres waspublished last week by the National College of School Leadership,drawing on research by Pen Green Leadership and Hendy ManagementCollege.

The report said 92 per cent of graduates in 2005-06 had made changes toworking practices in their centres as a result of their participationand that 87 per cent had a better understanding of what motivates theircolleagues.

Sharon Mackay, health visitor and deputy manager of Dawlish andTeignmouth Children's Centre, who graduated in 2007, said, 'The NPQICLis practical and creative. There's lots of role-play and activity -you're never sitting down.
