Building castles

Encourage children to develop their designing and making skills as they create their own giant's castle and garden to use in role play.

Planned learning intentions

To build with a wide range of objects, selecting appropriate resources, and adapting their work where necessary

To move with confidence, imagination and in safety

Adult:child ratio 1:4

Resources

Screen with three panels, large boxes, string, glue, tape

Step by step

* Place the screen in the role-play area and leave the boxes alongside.

* Read the story to the children and suggest that they pretend that the screened area is the giant's castle. Build with remaining wall of boxes and discuss how to make a door.
