Hundreds of primary school playgrounds are set for a makeover following the announcement by schools minister Catherine Ashton of the 10m Sporting Playgrounds scheme. It will support at least 470 schools in 27 local authorities, giving children better sports opportunities and helping improve attendance. Ms Ashton said, 'Sporting Playgrounds will have a strong focus on having fun. But it will also help thousands of children get fit and learn important social skills which will help them learn in school and make more positive use of their free time.'
