In brief...Cerebral palsy charity

Cerebral palsy charity Scope has taken its 'Speak for yourself' campaign to the House of Commons. Scope is lobbying prime minister Tony Blair and other politicians to end a 'postcode lottery' which it says denies a voice to children who cannot use speech. In a recent survey (News, 28 September 2000) Scope found that access to communication equipment was random, depending on the funding policies of education, social services and health authorities. The charity is calling on the Government to ensure that anybody who needs a communication aid gets it, along with proper training in its use. Lindsay Brewis, Scope education adviser, said, 'Every child must be able to communicate from the earliest possible stage if he or she is to succeed in education.'
