In brief...Doubling the number of community schools in Scotland

Doubling the number of community schools across Scotland is the new goal of the Scottish Executive. Education minister Jack McConnell called on local authorities to work in partnership to develop the scheme, which involves working closely with health education and social workers. Mr McConnell said pilot projects were already showing significant benefits. 'This approach can make significant improvements in attainment, and we want to extend that attainment across Scotland,' he said. 'I can confirm that the Executive will support councils in rolling out the new community schools model. But I also want to see councils making financial commitment to expand those projects too.'
