Including allergies

I cried as I read 'A food limit too far' (Letters, 22 December) because it was condescending and unsympathetic to the plight of children with food allergies. I am a nursery practitioner and the mother of a child with a life-threatening egg allergy. In my world, the simplest things must be scrutinised to keep my child safe. I'm glad that my child's pre-school had more sympathy towards the problems of allergies and coped better than Marcella Cunningham's nursery.

I worked with staff at Worton Pre-School in Isleworth to find ways around food problems. They obtained training in using my daughter's medication.

Her keyworker ensured her allergy was always remembered and all necessary precautions were taken. She was treated with care and her self-esteem was never knocked because of her medical conditions (asthma, anaphylaxis, eczema). I appreciate that it is hard dealing with multiple allergies in different children, but it can be done. For example, on Shrove Tuesday all the children enjoyed pancakes made to an egg-free recipe.
