The latest inspection report said staff inconsistency at UniversityNursery at West Cambridge 'significantly compromises children's health,safety, development and overall wellbeing'. The 100-place setting openedin 2004, with daycare for university staff and students. Its last reportin January 2005 rated it 'good'.
Concerns were raised as inspectors found that 'Staff fail toconsistently follow suitable hygiene procedures.' After nappy-changing,staff did not remove their gloves and aprons before moving children andinteracting with babies, putting children at risk ofcross-infection.
Other issues included storing milk feeds at incorrect temperatures andproviding children with unsuitable food that caused regurgitation.
While the report said that 'children are cared for in a well-maintainedand child-centred environment', safety was compromised by blocked fireexits and spilled sand and water.
