Integrated pre-school at risk of closure after cut to its funding

An inclusive pre-school in Lewisham, which has had its council funding cut, will close next year if it fails to raise a minimum of 15,000 within the next few weeks.

Lewisham Opportunity Pre-School (LOPs) rated as outstanding by Ofsted,provides care for a large percentage of children with disabilities andlearning difficulties.

The setting, which relies on donations and money from Lewisham Council,saw one of its funding streams, specifically for children withadditional needs, cut in June. Parents, who have set up a Twitter page -@SaveLOPS to raise donations and campaign against the closure, havereceived the backing of MPs Joan Ruddock and Heidi Alexander.
