It's time to raise pay

I am working for a playgroup where I am paid more per hour than I was while I was deputy manager at a large nursery.

My childcare career started almost seven years ago in a small day nursery, where I was paid 2.25 per hour. Things have improved slightly since then, but working in childcare is always a financial challenge. Many people, especially those with children, find it difficult to stay within the field due to the lack of support and reward.

I believe the Government should provide better support for childcarers wanting to improve their training. I am fortunate that the NVQ Level 4 in Early Years Childcare and Education that I am studying is funded with a bursary, otherwise I would not be on the course.
