We have just been landed with the bombshell that the school now wishes to start a drama club and a homework club for which it can apply for funding, and we have been asked to look for alternative premises.
It is the same old story of money being ploughed into activities at the end of the school day to the detriment of out-of-school care. The club has been advised that there is absolutely no space for us in the school, as under the McCrone Agreement the teachers are in their classrooms until 5pm each weekday.
Being able to find suitable premises is going to be nearly impossible. There are a number of halls in the local community, but getting one for five mornings and five afternoons, five days a week and five full days for school closure days, is quite a tall order. Being within a school we have a 'free let' and so we can offer affordable childcare, but once we start looking at commercial properties this is going to have a substantial impact on the fees we have to charge.
