Leadership in early childhood

Leadership in early childhood By Jillian Rodd

By Jillian Rodd

(3rd Edition, Open University Press, ISBN 0-33521-969-1, 19.99) Reviewed by Kay Jaques, manager of children's centres

This author has skilfully grappled with topical leadership issues and has brought them all together in this updated edition, enhanced as it reflects the current early years agenda and the rapidly changing environment which encompasses multi-agency working. The book is packed with interesting and inspiring ideas and encourages readers to reflect on their practice. The strong message throughout is that they should be encouraged to consider leadership.

Jillian Rodd suggests that those who work with children do not naturally see themselves as leaders, but discussion on the skills required for leadership shows that these are apparent in early years professionals.
