Letters: Strong organisation that holds the key

I am writing in support of the work of the NDNA following Alan Bentley's column (To the point, 17 May 2007). I have been a member of the NDNA for more than four years, but it has only been in the past two years that I have been actively involved with the organisation. It is not until you get involved that you realise quite how much work the NDNA does at all levels for its members.

My personal experience has taken me to meetings in the House of Commonswith the chair of the Education Sub-Committee, to meetings withdirectors of Sure Start in London and in Leeds, where the NDNAmembership were being consulted by the Government on the free nurseryeducation entitlement and by members in my local area of York, bandingtogether as an NDNA Network, successfully challenging the localauthority level of nursery education funding.

Being part of the NDNA unlocked the doors to the local corridors ofpower. I have also seen at first hand the NDNA unlocking the doors tocentral Government.

My advice to Mr Bentley is not to call for a new organisation. If thecurrent organisation is not to his liking, why not make changes fromwithin?
