The PLA issued a statement last week saying that Ms Lochrie had 'decided that the time had come for her to move on' after a long period of service.
The statement added that the strategic projects she was involved with would be dealt with by officers of the charity, working closely with its operational directors and external advisors.
PLA president Alan Tuckett OBE praised her contribution. He said, 'Margaret Lochrie has provided tremendous energy and strategic vision during her time with the charity and has helped the Pre-school Learning Alliance to become the major player it is in terms of early years childcare and education, and to enjoy widespread public and government support for its work.'
