Look and learn

Develop your understanding of children's learning by considering the following scenario Scenario

Scenario

Davey (five years seven months) and Abidul (four years 11months) go straight outdoors when they arrive at the setting. Davey has Down's Syndrome. Abidul quickly commandeers the bike and trailer and rides enthusiastically round the garden with Davey in the trailer. They bump into Habiba and Freya. Habiba begins to cry and Abidul gets off the bike to comfort her, using their shared first language. Davey watches patiently but makes no comment. They continue to ride around for some time, talking and shouting to each other in English, but also making whooping and cheering sounds. Another child asks Davey to move over and let him in the trailer.
