Scenario

Kyle (aged three years and one month) enters the paint area alone. He spends a few moments watching as others work in the area. With adult encouragement, he approaches the table and observes as the adult explains and demonstrates paint-mixing routines.

Supported by the adult, Kyle uses the spatula to put some red powder paint (the nearest colour pot to him) in the palette and then to mix the powder with water using a brush. He stirs the paint round and round in the palette and then dips the brush into the water pot again and stirs the water, watching as it changes colour.
