Lord Rooker

The first Minister for Children appointed in Northern Ireland is Lord Rooker. He will act as a champion for children within government and will establish a 25-member Children and Young People's Forum to advise on key policy initiatives. Lord Rooker said, 'I want to involve children and young people in decisions that affect their lives and as minister for children I intend to seek and listen to their views.' The announcement was welcomed by Playboard, an organisation that supports out-of-school clubs, whose chief executive Marguerite Hunter Blair said, 'This appointment represents a wonderful new opportunity to bring children and young people's issues into the heart of policy making.'
