Media: Babycare guru found lacking qualifications

The controversial childcare expert whose methods portrayed on the Channel 4 programme 'Bringing Up Baby' drew criticism from early years experts and parents alike has failed to produce any evidence of her childcare qualifications, three months after Channel 4 asked for it.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said, 'At Channel 4's request, Silver Riverhave asked Claire Verity for documentary evidence to support thequalifications listed in a document her agent supplied, and thus farnone has been forthcoming. However, we would like to make it clear thatClaire Verity was chosen for the programme on the strength of herexperience and references, and the fact her methods reflected one of theapproaches featured in the programme.

'Maternity consultants are not required to hold specific qualificationsbut are employed on the strength of their experience. Claire has over 20years of experience in this field.'

Organisations that Ms Verity claimed to have qualifications from saidthey had no record of her. During the series a spokesman for Channel 4said it had discovered inaccuracies in Ms Verity's curriculum vitae(News, 1 November).
