As many as 40 per cent of parents with young children cannot recite a single nursery rhyme, preferring instead to sing pop songs or television theme tunes to their child, according to a survey reported in The Times.

Janine Spencer, a developmental psychologist at Brunel University, saidtraditional nursery rhymes can 'help the development of communication,memory, language and reading skills'.

Parents spend an average of 2,628 decorating a baby's room,reported ITV News. One in five children under three now has a televisionin their room and five per cent of parents have even consideredinstalling CCTV in the nursery.

Singer Pink has told the Metro she thinks she should adopt a childbecause she enjoys saving dogs. She said, 'Adopting is just as beautifulas having your own. I rescue dogs, so why not rescue children?'
