The Herald reported that Scottish children are the UK's most prolific consumers of chips, crisps and fizzy drinks. Seventy per cent of seven-to 14-year-olds in Scotland have fizzy drinks at home - twice as many as in the south of England.

But the Daily Mail claimed a minority of diet-obsessed parents are taking healthy eating to extremes. It said children as young as nine have eating disorders after consuming too much 'pure' food lacking in essential nutrients and fats.
