Meet the family

South Tyneside College has put out a call for families with babies and toddlers with which to place its students studying for the NNEB (now called the Diploma in Childcare and Education - hands up everybody who knew that!) Parents may be tempted to think of the student placement as a free nanny or babysitting service, but colleges around the country will remind them that it is a vital part of their course training and often an introduction to working within a family home. If you're a nanny whose neighbours are always asking for childcare favours, you might suggest they get in touch with their local college. Meanwhile South Tyneside reports that its Childminding Practice course would be useful for nannies who wish to start working in their own homes, and that its Initital Training for Classroom Assistants certificate has been so popular that it has added on another class. For information contact Jackie Nolan on 0191 427 3628.
