Mobile creche to bring flexible care

A new service providing childcare to families in rural communities in Scotland has been launched in the Highlands. Direct Childcare, led by Highland Pre-school Services, is a new voluntary organisation that operates three mobile creches in Caithness, Inverness, Nairn, Ross & Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh and Sutherland.

Development manager Fiona Ednie said that the facility had been set up to 'fill a gap in existing childcare in the area'. 'It aims to provide a flexible service to families, agencies, support services and local businesses,' she said.

The creche facility can be used at conferences, training programmes, family support groups, meetings or seminars.

Risk assessments are undertaken at each venue before the event taking place, and trained early years workers from the Highland Pre-school Services' staff bank - who have already undergone the relevant health, safety and disclosure checks - are sub-contracted out to work when the demand arises.
