Ofsted is to publish both the Early Years Register and the Childcare Register on its website, along with providers' names, addresses and type of childcare offered, following a consultation with parents and providers.

Ofsted received 1,345 responses to its consultation, which closed inFebruary, on whether the registers should be published and whatinformation should be included. Feedback came from across the childcaresector and included parents, representative groups and localauthorities.

Most respondents agreed that parents need more information than Ofstedcurrently publishes, including the names, addresses and telephonenumbers of registered providers.

However, Ofsted decided not to publish childminders' addresses, following objections by childminders, who were the largest group ofrespondents at 719.

As of 1 September, Ofsted will publish only a childminder's uniquereference number (URN) on the website and not their name and fulladdress, which had been considered.
