Nannies can join childminding body

The National Childminding Association is extending its membership to include nannies with the launch next month of a specially designed service. From September, nannies and childminders who care for children aged over seven will be able to join a scheme being developed in response to the Government's plans to introduce a new 'light touch' voluntary accreditation from April next year, whereby parents employing nannies can claim help with childcare costs through tax credits.

NCMA chief executive Gill Haynes said that the association recognised that the Government's intention to extend tax credits would enable it in turn to extend its support to a new group of home-based childcarers who are going through 'light touch' accreditation.

The new members will pay an annual fee and will have to sign up to certain compulsory elements, such as NCMA's quality standards, but there are also likely to be optional services.
