Nanny picnics on new business

(Photograph) - Falling off a skateboard and breaking her leg was the route to business success for nanny Carly Painter of Bournemouth. The accident last year left her unable to keep working as a nanny, but upon seeing agencies floundering at trying to help her to find a replacement nanny for her employers, she thought 'I can do better than that', and set up her own Sunrise Nanny and Babysitting Agency. Carly, age 23, secured a 3,000 loan from youth charity the Prince's Trust after completing its business course and a gruelling panel interview. In gratitude she organised a Teddy Bears Picnic in May (pictured) to raise funds for the Prince'sTrust, with donated prizes and a bouncy castle, attracting 150 local people. Having started up in January, her business is now taking off. Her secret, Carly says, is being able to add the personal touch of a real nanny's experience. 'People know you've been there and done it.' She also holds a monthly nanny club meeting, where her nannies can bring up issues on their minds in a casual way. Would Carly go back to nannying herself? 'The way it's going, I'm going to be too busy to even think about it!' Sunrise Nanny Agency can be contacted on 01202 267 768.
