National Strategy for 2002-2005

A new National Strategy for Playwork Education and Training, to run from 2002-2005, is being drawn up. The Playwork Unit of SPRITO, the Sports, Recreation and Allied Occupations training organisation, hopes to launch the new strategy in June. In 1998 the National Playing Fields Association and the National Centre for Playwork Education in the North East produced a similar strategy to run from 1999-2002 but this runs out in March. The new strategy will set out the principles, aims and objectives of the playwork sector and be the basis for a work programme and business plan for the SPRITO Playwork Unit. Playworkers were asked to contribute their views before a deadline last month.

The aims of the strategy include: developing a framework of nationally recognised qualifications; building an infrastructure of training centres in the nine Government office areas of England; developing new quality standards for training, training providers and trainers and allowing for closer working between sectors.
