Neighbourhoods gain from NOF

Communities across the country are to benefit from awards totalling just under 800,000 announced last week by the New Opportunities Fund to build and renovate neighbourhood nurseries. Seventy new childcare places will be created at the Hayes Neighbourhood Nursery and Early Years Centre thanks to a grant of 130,000 to the London Borough of Hillingdon. The cash will be used to demolish part of an existing 35-place nursery and build an extensive modular building to cater for children aged six months to five years.

Nursery manager Gerry Sycamore said, 'We have been planning this expansion for some time and without this funding we would not have been able to realise our ambitions. Single parents will have the opportunity to access quality childcare which will help them to explore training or employment opportunities.'
