New trial to help lone parents

A new trial from 2010 will help lone parents take up jobs to fit with the availability of childcare and picking up children from school. The pilot will mean that lone parents on income support working less than 16 hours a week will be able to earn 50 a week before any impact is made on benefits. Under new plans by work and pensions secretary Yvette Cooper, parents whose children are in nursery or reception will have to undergo training or update their CVs as a step to getting off benefits.
