No EYFS Profile league tables

The Government has gone back on a proposal to publish Early Years Foundation Stage Profile league tables at school level.

Last November the Department for Education announced plans to publish EYFS Profile results by school and assess children with new 'readiness for school' measures at the age of five, under its five-year business plan (News, 18 November 2010).

The Government said the purpose was to help parents make informed choices.

But a spokesperson for the DfE said last week, 'We will not publish Early Years Foundation Stage Profile data at school level. The draft transparency section of the DfE business plan suggested that achievements of children at the end of the EYFS might be published at school level, in addition to data already published on children's attainment at the end of the primary school phase. This is not the case and will be made clear in the final published version of the business plan.'
