Last year Linda Middleton of Parkstone Kids Club in Hull scooped the title of Playworker of the Year. Ms Middleton was described on the nomination form as having a 'sunny disposition and a spine of tungsten steel that has made Parkstone Kids' Club a huge success'. She had sought to maintain high standards at the club by training to the NVQ level 3 in Playwork and working towards the Aiming High quality assurance scheme.
Despite the high staff turnover within the sector as a whole, some of the team at Parkstone have worked there since the club started. Places were in such high demand that the club was bursting at the seams and Ms Middleton was hoping to expand it.
