ON YOUR BIKES

Charlton Family Centre in Greenwich, London, raised money for anend-of-term party with a sponsored bike and scooter race. The 185raised by children and their parents paid for a bouncy castle and foodfor the children's party.

A SPECIAL VISITOR

Playdays Daycare Nursery in Bolton, Lancashire, enjoyed a special visitfrom the local MP Julie Hilling, who came to see all the children andeven helped them to search for some worms. The nursery reported that MsHilling was very impressed with the facilities at Playdays and thededication of staff.

IN TUNE

The annual end-of-term concert at Chigwell and Hainault SynagogueNursery in Loughton, Essex, had as guests of honour the Mayor andMayoress of Redbridge, Jim and Mary O'Shea. The younger childrenperformed some songs and rhymes about the weather, while the olderchildren sang popular Hebrew songs.

CHANGES FOR LIFE

Milton Keynes Hospital nursery (pictured, right) was among the Busy Beesnurseries across the country that held a number of active events thismonth to support the Department of Health's Change4life campaign, whichfeatured five themed days, including cook4life, play4life,breakfast4life and walk4life. Some of the nurseries also took part in aPeppa Pigthemed triathlon to raise money for children's charity Tommy's.Children involved in the triathlon splashed in muddy puddles, rodetrikes and ran in a mini sprint.

ECO AWARD

Northumbria University Nursery has won a prestigious gold Enviro Schoolsaward for its environmental awareness campaign. The initiative,delivered by Newcastle City Council, encourage schools and othersettings to consider environmental issues.

The nursery achieved the gold award by reducing, re-using and recyclingmaterials, as well as being energy efficient, engaging in outdoorlearning and teaching the children about the impact they have on theenvironment.

Guessing games

A new DVD featuring six episodes of the CBeebies television show 'Guesswith Jess' is being launched on 6 September. In the show, aimed at twotofour-year-olds, Jess the cat and his animal friends search for answersto science and nature questions. Episodes on the DVD include 'When willthe owl go hooo?', and 'Where's my puddle gone?' The DVD, called 'Guesswith Jess: Where have all the stars gone?', costs 12.99 and isavailable at all major retailers.

Photo of the Week: Children from Elvetham Heath Day Nursery andPre-School in Fleet, Hampshire, brought a rainbow down to earth usingpaint, brushes and rollers in their outdoor area. Staff said theactivity stemmed from one child's interest in rainbows and followed awide discussion about how they are created.
