People and Places - Fun for childminders

A visit from the fire brigade was the highlight of the day for AmyFraser and Ben Wheatley (pictured) when more than 200 childminders inSouthend, Essex, and their families celebrated National ChildmindingWeek and the National Year of Reading with a singalong and story rhymesession in the Chalkwell Park last week. Chair of Southend ChildmindingAssociation Joanne Wheatley said, 'Bookstart from Southend libraryencouraged the children to do actions to songs like 'Incy Wincy Spider'.The local Sure Start team also came along to do a session on earlyphonics, and got the children to bash everyday pots and pans that werehung on the park fence.'
