NEW PREMISES AT LAST

A 770,000 children's centre has reopened in Florence Park,Oxford, after years of campaigning by parents for new premises. Thecampaign was launched after the local authority decided to close downthe centre's old premises, where an early years setting had been housedsince the 1980s. Dr Mohammed Hanif, who spearheaded the campaign, saidof the reopening, 'It's a triumph for community co-operation anddedication of the parents and all the people who have worked sohard.'

Children at nurseries and playgroups around the country are going on abug hunt in aid of meningitis care. The Big Bug Hunt was launched lastweek by the charity Meningitis UK to raise funds and spread awarenessabout the illness, inviting young children to take part in eventsincluding a sponsored bug hunt or obstacle course, fancy dress shows anda colouring competition. Events will be held throughout September andOctober and the money raised will go towards Meningitis UK's Search 4 aVaccine campaign. Groups will also have the option of keeping 25 percent of the money they raise for their own organisation. For moreinformation and a free resource pack visit www.bigbughunt.org.
