Nursery activities

We recently developed an exciting sensory room as part of the new extension to our nursery. However, when we found out how expensive it would be to equip it with modern resources, we decided to create some of our own, using everyday items. We attached the boards to the wall just above the skirting board so that even the less mobile children could lie on the floor and explore them. We started by framing four large sheets of wood with wooden beading. Across each corner we attached a triangular piece of material chosen for its unusual appearance or texture. We used shiny black leather, soft navy blue fleece, thick ribbed corduroy and rough blue reflective fabric.

Down the centre of one board we created a rectangular tube-like structure from Perspex. The children love to drop balls through the top of this structure and watch them as they move downwards to emerge out of a tube at the bottom.
