Jigsaw ran several initiatives to teach nursery children how to lift objects safely and to show parents the best ways to lift young children. The group gave out information leaflets and held demonstrations and sports sessions.

Receiving the award, Jigsaw's chief executive Tom Shea said, 'Every day, our staff and parents are lifting children and we know how crucial it is that they lift them correctly, both for their own safety and that of the child. And the children regularly lift things as part of their play activities, but we must ensure that they do so safely, without risk of injury.'

This year's event begins on 15 October and will run for a fortnight with the theme 'workplace accidents'. An action pack will shortly be available from the Health and Safety Executive .
