* In 2002 the National Day Nurseries Association will be offering training tailored to meet the operational needs of day nursery managers and their staff. The NDNA's training programme has been devised following a commissioned review of day nurseries' training needs last summer. Donna Sheldon, NDNA training development co-ordinator, said, 'This gave us an insight into the development of our training programme.'

Following the review, the NDNA piloted nursery management courses in the North-east of England during the autumn. These new courses include recruitment and selection of staff; nursery policies and procedures; writing an operational plan; and business sustainability.

To subsidise the cost to day nurseries, the NDNA is hoping to access European and Government funding, and is working with Partnerships to deliver courses locally.
