Nursery nurses to create safety action zones

Nursery nurses and childcare workers are being encouraged to work with parents and carers to create safety action zones in their communities, in a bid to cut the number of accidents involving children each year. As part of Child Safety Week, which runs from 18 to 24 June, The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) is calling on organisations and individuals to create areas where child safety hazards are identified and action is taken to address them.

According to CAPT director Carol Sherriff, more than one child a day dies as a result of accidents in the UK and millions more attend hospital accident and emergency departments every year because of accidental injuries.

She said, 'It seems as if these accidents just happen, but most of them can be prevented, often by just taking a few simple precautions. We would like all practitioners to link up locally and pool resources to create a safety action zone.
