Ofsted errors 'led to closure'

The former owners of a nursery and a pre-school have claimed a series of Ofsted errors forced them to close both businesses. Lisa and Martyn Wills, who ran the Pavilion Day Nursery and Pavilion Pre-school in Whetstone, on the outskirts of Leicester, said they were the victims of damning Ofsted reports posted in error on the educational watchdog's website.

Lisa and Martyn Wills, who ran the Pavilion Day Nursery and Pavilion Pre-school in Whetstone, on the outskirts of Leicester, said they were the victims of damning Ofsted reports posted in error on the educational watchdog's website.

The mistakes, which Ofsted has admitted, came after both businesses had actually been praised by Ofsted inspectors.

The first error came to light earlier this year when a negative report on another pre-school was posted on Ofsted's website under the Pavilion heading.

The couple then discovered a report criticising the Whetstone nursery on the site - only eight weeks after it had received a good Ofsted report. The negative report referred to a nursery that had occupied the same premises but closed some time ago.
