Ofsted to respect anonymity wishes

The schools inspectorate Ofsted said last week it will omit the addresses of independent schools in England from reports published on its website where there is good reason to do so, at the proprietor's request. The move was included in Ofsted's analysis of responses to consultation on its draft framework for inspecting independent schools in England, which was included within a DfES consultation on draft regulations for registration and monitoring of independent schools published in February.

Independent schools will be regulated by Ofsted from 1 September.

In its analysis of consultation responses, Ofsted said Jewish schools had requested that inspection reports placed on the Ofsted website should have the address of the school removed to prevent potentially hostile incidents against the school. It has pledged that where an independent school's proprietor has requested for an address not to be included, with good reason, this wish will be respected.
