A charming children's story about a boy who is too preoccupied with his own play to mind his little sister provides the basis for wide-ranging acitivites suggested by Sue Sheppy. In the story Joe's Cafe by Rose Impey and Sue Porter (Orchard Picture Books, 4.99), Joe is asked to look after his little sister in the garden while his mother finishes her baking. He doesn't like having to look after her, as she is too young to play any of his games. He becomes so engrossed in making slug sandwiches and caterpillar cakes for his cafe that he forgets about his sister, who digs up the flowers and then wanders off and gets lost. They are reunited at the end, when Joe is delighted to see his sister, who suddenly feels much more grown up.
